"Dear philosophers, I get sad when I think.
Is it the same with you? ..."

More unthinking, dusty car pix to come. (The cars were sitting, a little worn but still splendid, in the parking lot of a large gas station on Highway 281.)
okey-dokey. One more for the virtual book pile (just gotta find a way to pay for that pile-a-books-a-day habit - or stop reading your posts, damn it!)
ReplyDeleteWhat brightness! Merry 3rd day of Christmas--
ReplyDeleteDH gave me Wolf Kahn's America and I spend the afternoon reading it. One of the things he's written twice (and I'm only half through) is that he's a painter and doesn't NEED to answer the big deep questions... whether asked by others or himself. He just sticks with "doing the work."
ReplyDeleteWhile I love questions, philosophizing and mulling things over, perhaps "just doing the work" would be better.
As you know, I am a big fan of dusty car pics. Not certain that anything you do could be classified as "unthinking" but ... if you insist I will believe you.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite teachers was an ex nun who then became a nurse and then a teacher. I had so many elaborate ideas about how different it must be to be a nun, but she cleared up my delusions around that. She said being a nun is just like any other life - there are good days and bad days, days when you detest your companions, other days when everything and everyone seems wonderful. Same must be true for philosophers, don't you think?
