I am delighted! You picked one of my paintings. I lived in Latvia for a year and the winter was truly endless. That's my pale underexposed hand reaching out of the frozen earth. The painting is about seven feet tall.
You asked about the images: it's a mix. Some of them are mine, some of them I received from friends, and some are images that I carry around in my head, such as Jawlensky's painting. If it doesn't have a name on it, it's mine or unidentifiably from within my family of phototakers.
It's so nice to meet you. Those cupcakes looks a wee bit toxic in terms of the color scheme. Right up there with Kraft mac and cheese nuclear orange!
Looking foward to more blog exchanges.
About Michael's woodwork: check out the entries under Table Lawn. You can see the table Michaelmade for me in those.
Well, I was very much surprised by Penelope's comment.
So surprised, I decided to email her, and at the same time get input from two IlloFriday people whose opinions I value.
Here's an abridged version of what I sent:
...Although it is your site, and you can define what is posted as you will, I felt strongly enough about not being able to play with the Illustration Friday community to write, and to copy two people whose work I respect in order to get their perspective.
Since I thought perhaps I was mistaken in thinking that illustration extended past “things drawn/painted/collaged” I Googled “define:illustration” and I found most major sites do include photography in their definition. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=define%3Aillustration
The medium is not important – the response to a topic, and the use of static visual media, are what defines an illustration.
...I hope you will reconsider conceptual photography as a legitimate medium for illustration.
Agreed. I love your illustration. Great colors and I think it definitely fits the topic as well as would be defined as an illustration. It is not just a picture of a cupcake it is a conceptual illustration in my definition. [ =
I think this is great! I always enjoy your photographic illustrations of the topics... This is one is fun and delicious looking. I guess if you played with your food, you gotta eat all three!
Stick it to the man Lori, I love your pics, they're a damn lot better than many of the crappy illustrations (i.e. a photo with a photoshop filter run over it) that are allowed in illustration friday!
