Well, I was tempted by the thing, but I don't think I shall take Genji to Yaddo with me! Too distracting. You and Chris will have to hold the Genji fort.
Lori - I've read several translations of the Tale of Genji and BY far my Fav is the one by Arthur Waley, Published by The Modern Library, Random House (my copy is from 1960...but they might have a more recent edition).
It has the best readable translation and best footnotes - and I posted about it here.
I don't know why, but I love seeing sketches on legal paper. Yellow pads...napkins..scraps. Maybe because it speaks to the immediacy of the work. Maybe the idea that normal objects can be works of art...that somehow it takes art and brings it to a level that becomes more accessible.
Nice sketches here. I think I am going to start publishing some of my artwork. Of course, mine are the scribblings of a diseased mind. But still.
