World enough...

...but not time enough.

I got back late Tuesday, took my friend to the airport Wednesday. Half-way back to Austin, I felt like turning the car around.

If you click on the pic, and then imagine it surrounding you in all directions, the air smelling like ponderosa pine and wet creosote, no sound except bird-song and the wind in the grass and trees, you'll know why.

I didn't catch many pics while traveling -- too much chat with an old friend, too much rain (fortunately for all the folks living in Fort Davis, Alpine, and Marfa), too little time.

But I did catch a few. Wish I were there, again.

It is good to get away to all those places, particularly the old friend places.

Can smell it.
Did you get to see the night sky at the Observatory?

It's so hard when you've been away longer than is really convenient, AND you aren't ready to go back home. Texas openness is amazing.

Hi everyone!

Shelly: Nothing more fun than reminiscing with an old friend about our wicked, wicked ways...well, almost as much fun as the actual wickedness. :-) The land out there? It feels like a blessing with every step I walk. I'm pretty lucky to have found a few places like that in my life.

RL: Since my friend's flight was late, she didn't get to Austin until 3am Saturday (rather than 11pm Friday). We hit the road at 9am, and by the time we got to Fort Davis -- about 5pm -- we were both so tired it almost hurt. Given the star party would have ended at midnight, and given the twisty road up and back to the observatory, we had to miss it. I told my buddy it would give her a reason to come back.

KPW: Yep -- a long weekend is not quite enough time to go where we went, but that was all the time we had. "Miles and miles of Texas" indeed. I love it.

Ret: You've been doing some awesome things on your blog (as always) -- thanks for stopping by, and for the welcome back!

PMBC: Yes, but my life is a sweet life if that's all I have to fuss about. :-)

Polona: I can tell by your photos you've been lifted by the same glorious sights, particular to your places and times. Ain't it grand?
