California shadow and light

The light in California seems almost Mediterranean to my eyes...

...I wonder if my blog-friends near the Mediterranean would agree, or if that's just my Texas imagination playing with me.

Although I haven't lived in California since 1973, I grew up not too far from San Jose. That light remains clear in my mind, though. I can remember being 2 years old, outdoors, in that light. Van Gogh thrived artistically in Mediterranean light. I am grateful for having lived in that light for the years I did. Thanks for these photos.

Your intuition is spot on, Lori! Much of California has climate and vegetation which is very similar to those of Greece and southern Spain. Unfortunately these attributes attract more and more people. All the more reason to learn to enjoy our local biomes, which may not be as spectacular, but which are nonetheless quite worthy of informed attention.

Welcome back, Lori.
I agree with you, about the blue sky and the two value light on the white walls.

I lived in San Francisco for fifteen years. I could never over how blue the light is there, so unlike the greens, golds and silvers of midatlantic light.

I don't know about the Mediterranean, but if the light is blue there, then yes, I know exactly what you mean!

Thank goodness you're back !

I'd forgotten how addictive its become to wander the West through your viewfinder.

belated.

As a former Californian I'd disagree, but I lived in the parts that usually had smog issues, or spent most of my time indoors.

I like your visions better than the ones I remember.
