Lori, I am so struck by how different the light is in which you live from the light in which I live. I look at your photos and I think about how my life would be different, if I lived it in a different light. There is a rebelliousness I associate with the light I see in your images, something untamed, a little raw at times, very beautiful. One sense that nature is much bigger than humankind where you live.
Khristina, I'm guessing the light is more the creative energy (and shooting lots of images) than the place. It is hot and bright here, brighter than the northeast at times, but I remember the lambent light of the Hudson River Valley fondly.
Is nature bigger than humankind here? I'd ask, is nature smaller than humankind anywhere?
I live at the edge of a medium-sized city, and we have shopping malls, suburbs, and all the prepackaged surroundings one finds in these places.
The best thing I learned from drawing classes? Look. Look. Look. Look. And look again. Be ready to be surprised. But it helps to love where (land, sky, bugs, etc.) you live.

A beautiful shot!! Lovely work.
I've never seen these plants before...very cool. The DOF is great!
Thanks all!
It was a hot late afternoon, and the bees were buzzing around my ears as I got into the flowers.
