Apples 'n oranges

Not happy with the image -- but I was distracted by the grocery people waving me off, telling me I couldn't photograph around there.

The real colors?

A shade of orange glowing like the incandescence of a solar flare, and the fresh intense green of new spring leaves and shoots.

Image compared to reality?
Apples and oranges.

What the hell! I've gotten used to artists and craftsmen worrying about their work being copied, so "no photos, please." But apples & oranges -- they gotta be kidding.

The French poet Eluard wrote "La terre est une orange bleue" (The earth is a blue orange). But after following your links, I say "magic is a green solar flare". Long Live the Metaphor! (finely diced and mixed into fruit salad, preferably.)

Thanks so much for this, lori. Perfect to find this on a rainy night when I can't yet go back to sleep.

The guardians of groceries don't want pictures?

Strange.

Hope all is going splendidly with school...

I don't understand why they didn't want photos, either. It is still my impression that if something is visible to the public it's public... though perhaps they COULD ask you not to take photos because it was private property.

I like it, Lori. The accordion folds of reflective metal contrasting with the luscious fruity orbs. Kind of sexy. Maybe that's why the grocer considers his fruit forbidden, when it comes to photography. Next thing you know, someone will be tearing away that pleated skirt in a frenzy of passion.

Hey all y'all! The Press of Commerce may squeeze my time, but not so much that I can't say "thank you" for being such a witty, charming bunch of un-common-taters.

Granny J: Yes, I am the Fruit Paparazzi, and these must have been Celebrity Produce.

Lee: What a fabulous line from Eluard! Mmmm, diced and nicely mixed metaphors -- tasty! (I am hoping for a metafive, but will be content with a metatwo-and-a-half.)

am: Must be some of that involuntary moon-watching going around; am glad this gave you a little respite.

Marly: Who knew that produce was sacrosanct? The independent study structure is a bit scary -- I feel like I'm not doing enough fast enough on my paper, yet it's hard to get the focused time in large chunks. (More than ever, you writers with kids just awe me.)

KPW: They weren't rude about it, but I was pretty startled when the shop clerk came up behind me as I was squatting down eyeing the light bouncing off those oranges. I suspect it's a Policy with Big Healthy Food Stores to make sure no one is going to dis the fruit.

San: Hah! You crack me up! And you did get the nugget I was drawn to, the contrast between those glowy orbs and the way-shiny corrugated pleats. But I hadn't exactly gone there in my mind's eye, until your comment...

:-)

It's really a beautiful photograph though, right down to the reflections bouncing off the floor.

Must be a homeland security thing. They've coopted the color orange into their "threat thermometer." No one else may use it.

Yea, I'm sure the purveyor of produce at the local market has a lot of copyright laws against photographing his fruit... Good Lord... I'd be seeing to it that I took the very bottom orange out, just to make sure it was ripe.
