Glyphs

"How many years did I
beg it, implore it, not to break?
I knew each nick and scratch by heart..."

From "Crusoe in England" by Elizabeth Bishop

***

More readin' and ritin' to do on a holiday weekend.
The air is thick, still and humid -- Hurricane Alex's expiring breath moving up from South Texas.
Have a peaceful week, all y'all.

Tough job, being our social conscience, but you're up to it. Grab yourself some BBQ to go along with all that readin' 'n writin'.

Thanks, Lori. That poem is just right for the week of the 4th of July. First I read it, and then I listened to Elizabeth Bishop read it and now I'm asking myself, "What would a peaceful week be like?" It might not be what I think it would be at all. Could I actually chose it?

"Was there
a moment when I actually chose this?
I don’t remember, but there could have been.”
