Illustration Friday:
Sacrifice (the illusion of self)

From the Online Etymology Dictionary:
c.1250, from O.Fr. sacrifise (12c.), from L. sacrificium, from sacrificus "performing priestly functions or sacrifices," from sacra "sacred rites" (prop. neut. pl. of sacer "sacred," see sacred) + root of facere "to do, perform" (see factitious). L. sacrificium is glossed in O.E. by ansegdniss.

Yes, beautiful, and who are we really? And who are we when we dream? I love that your post has opened some questions.

I guess life is a priestly function. We work and make sacrifices so that we can have life.

Beautiful image. Sacrifice is an interesting word of a lot of different meanings.

I'm sure sacrifice means different things between our cultures and others. The interesting bit comes when a person sacrifices one part of him/herself for another, a sort of meta-self-sacrifice. But then what happens if you have multiple personalities? Either way, great pic!

Oh, lovely. When my firstborn was very small I had a dream in which an old, old woman with red berries in her hair told me "you are carrying so much--think about the true meaning of the word 'sacrifice'"
It was a needed reminder for me of the sacredness of the ordinary.

Cool illo Lo-Wi, I love your line style...and the positive negative space is waaaaay groovy. Is this one of those drawings, that if you turn it upside down you see a naked lady doing dirty things? Man, I sure hope so.

I really love your drawings! This one has a mystical feeling with its composition and images. I like the scratchy quality of the lines and the sift colors...very nice!
