Early morning coffee two-fer

When I started paying attention to hands...really looking attentively...the thought struck me, "They look like flowers."

Later that day, at lunch, a pleasant woman noticed me sketching. As we chatted, I told her about needing to draw more hands in order to better understand their basic forms. She said, peering at some people at the next table, "You know what hands remind me of? They look like flowers!"

I love hands. I look at people's hands all the time. They fascinate me. They're really extraordinary things. I think of them as being like birds.

I love it: hands like flowers. Kind of e.e. cummings.
Makes me recall when I was drawing as a kidlet and always had the hands of my beautiful ladies behind their backs--and their feet deep in long grasses, strewn with flowers.
Come to think of it, I don't think they had noses either. Too hard to draw. But beautiful, beautiful ballgowns, for sure.

One of my chemistry students sketched several excellent hands on her final exam last week. The most unusual pose had the fingers bent under and the knuckles all resting on the desk.
